Description

Located in the Eastern Anatolia Geographical district of Turkey, the Kirazlık Hydroelectric Power Plant (Kirazlık HPP) project is a gravity dam built over the Botan Stream, which is one of the major tributaries of the River Tigris. The project serves two purposes: to regulate the outflow of the Alkumru Dam upstream and to generate hydroelectric power using a run-of-the-river design. Key Highlights: - The Kirazlık HPP has a total capacity of 46.11 MW, which is enough to produce 150,610 MWh of electricity per year. - By generating electricity that would have otherwise been produced by grid-connected power plants or new generation sources, the project reduces annual CO2 emissions by an estimated 81,307 tonnes of CO2e. - The project contributes to Turkey's national goal of increasing the share of renewable energy in the country's energy mix.
